No fun ction alL anguage

Searching the in-between spaces where words fail us

Age Range: 14+

Language: English, Afrikaans and South African Sign Language

“No fun ction alL anguage” takes a microscopic look at the in-between spaces where words fail us - where we desperately search for meaning between vowels, consonants and silences. How do we say what we mean or express what we feel? What happens if we don’t have the right words or any words to share our thoughts? Through fragmented narratives, movement and live looping; the unstable constructions of modern-day interactions are explored. Allowing for the audience to ask... do words really help us communicate?

PruTTeL

Provoking new work set to push visual theatre boundaries.

Age Range: 18+

Language: Afrikaans and English

Old Tannie van der Wat has been a recluse for nearly 30 years, waiting for Death to knock on her door. However, a Meals on Wheels volunteer mysteriously enters her life one day. Unable to speak, he acts as a mirror to Tannie’s tales of an era long gone. PruTTeL is a metaphor of our past in a time of our own uncertainty, where dark secrets are kept hidden in our history's womb. A visual feast comprised of a rotting main course, followed by a bittersweet dessert, washed down with a bottle of Merlot.

Kardiavale

Kardiàvale

A Kabaret Klown Noir Spectacle

Age Range: 18+

Language: English

A pokey, run-down carnival is in town, run by the aging OSKAR – a carny ringleader of dubitable reputation and very much down on his luck. The modern age has no real need for the moth-eaten wonders that he purveys.

OSKAR is in dire need of a break -a miraculous attraction that will put him back in the limelight and re-establish his act as an attraction of wonder, awe, and murky fascination.

A young child, ONNI, is born with the rare (but true) disease Ectotopia Cordis – where the heart is born outside the chest.

Abandoned by her anonymous mother and left for dead in the gutter, ONNI is rescued by OSKAR who takes her under his care, and sees within her his ticket back to the big time. She will be his headline attraction and be used for his own nefarious reasons. The stage is set for a mighty battle of control and freedom.

Funny, spooky, irreverent, macabre, but always deliciously (even devilishly) entertaining, Kardiàvale is a cruel metaphor for how the open-hearted can be abused and mistreated. And the choices we make for a want to be accepted.
